Happy Birthday Grams!

Grams is 94 today - April 4th - what a lovely lady!
Happy Birthday - thanks for all you've done for me -
I will be forever grateful. LOVE YOU!

Since the entire Ohana was together in mid-March we celebrated Gram's Birthday a little early!
Here's another lovely soul - yeah for moms!

Hawaii Part 4

It wasn't all play during our trip......some worked hard!
Todd worked on mom's front yard in January and again in March.
Yup......the white guy made mom a Japanese garden.

Here he is..........slaving away in the tropics.
Mom wanted color, so she got some pretty flowers.

Todd and I love shopping at Home Depot because we don't have
one in Eau Claire. We bought this bamboo fencing.

Todd also worked hard taking down old and unused window stuff.

And finally, he took down the accordian style door that
was literally falling apart.

Todd put up the new door but it was too big. So Uncle Alan
was called in to bring over his high powered tools.
The door was cut to fit and installed - Erin's new sliding
door is great!
After all that hard work - you deserve a beer!

Hawaii Part 3

Our lovely niece Erin is such a cutie and we enjoyed seeing her during our visit. Unfortunately she's picked up some kind of infection and is now in the hospital. "Erin......we think of you often, send our love, and hope you get better soon"!

My mom and sister have some great stuff in their yard - here's what you can find:
Pineapples - wonder if they'll be good?

Papaya trees.......no fruit yet.

Hawaii Part I

Traveling is usually fun, right? Well, mostly.
Does this look familiar? Anyone who travels knows you spend too much time in airports and dealing with "security" which is kind of a joke.

This traveler doesn't look so thrilled.

This one tried to keep a smile on..............'cause she was going to see her family - DOUBLE YIPEE!

Finally..........a new post!

Sorry for the lack of posts..............I have two very good reasons: Spring break and being horribly sick!

Yummy Egg Rolls

A few students came up with the idea to sell Hmong Egg Rolls so they could fundraise money needed to attend a conference. Not only did we order three dozen; I volunteered to make them. It was a lot of work, a lot of fun and they raised enough to go to the conference.
Cutting the cabbage: & grating the carrots:

Get the wrappers ready and start rolling..............keep on rolling:

1000+ egg rolls later................................

Now fry, baby, fry!

Does that look delicious? Yes, I was part of quality control - gotta make sure they're really good before selling them!

Don't forget the chili sauce - very important!

Quinoa Part II

In an earlier post I wrote about Quinoa, my new favorite food. Well, I wanted to see what the plant looked like and here it is. Must look nice when you've got a whole field of it growing.

Pet Store Fun

We love the pet store and yesterday was the grand opening of Pet Smart. It was mobbed but we had fun. As soon as Misty got out of the car she knew where we were headed - she wanted to see some furry friends. She couldn't stop wagging her tail and wanted to take a "furry burrito" home.

Weaver's

Jodi & I at Weaver's, located 10 miles outside of Eau Claire in the town of Fall Creek.
The beauty of it lies in it's simplicity. The store is run by the Amish, they sell the basics like spices, flour and other baking items, pasta, rice, and lots of organic stuff.

Weaver's isn't far from Eau Claire, but you are in the "country".
You can still see a bit of snow, it's been warm the past two days,
mid-40s so a lot of melting going on.

I love the minimal packaging - it helps mother earth! And with all this simplicity comes low prices. Double Yeah!

Shu came with us too.................we had so much fun!

Time to head home...........we spent enough money for one day, but our tummies will be happy.
